Where is the love? A journey to find peace in Lebanon
In Beirut, Lebanon, a peaceful rebellion is taking place against a corrupt government. As "Ossi" (eastern german) this reminds me already very much of 1989, the dissatisfaction with the government and the conditions. The protest comes from the people who stick together and rebel peacefully against injustice. We can learn a lot from this country. In spring I was in Lebanon for the first time and in the Arab world for the first time. As a journalist and lecturer at intercultural universities, I finally wanted to get my own picture of the Middle East. Lebanon fascinated me above all because so many religions live peacefully together here. The smoke of the civil war has just disappeared and the country has to cope with Hezbollah, refugees from Syria, Iraq, Palestine and Iran. A powder keg that does not explode. A miracle. Here I wanted to solve the "Puzzle of Peace" (documentary 2019) and understand why mankind has been living in wars for at least 3000 years, although everyone longs for peace. Why are children like "Alias" without their parents on the Balkan route to Germany, leaving their beloved homeland and their family, friends and childhood behind them? Why war? And although Lebanon has achieved this miracle of peace, it is always work, dialogue, communication. We can learn a lot from this country. Because Lebanon has learned its lesson. After centuries of almost complete deforestation of the healed cedar, the Lebanese are now replanting it together millions of times over, as they sowed the seeds for peace after the civil war. On this journey through Lebanon, I meet a journalist and a diplomat, locals and hosts, and even Dario Escobar hides in a cave in the Sacred Valley. I searched for peace and found wise and heartfelt people who left Lebanon in the civil war, lived well in the Western world, but found heaven only in their homeland Lebanon. This is the story of a fantastic journey to what unites us all.
